When choosing or arranging furniture, you should aim to stimulate healthy ch'i flows by choosing shapes, colors, and styles that can be seen to  correspond to the elements and sector of the eight-sided Pa Kua.
When buying furniture , for example, do select colors and designs with Feng shui in mind.A green armchair would be southeastern sectors of the room.It is also more Yin and can, therefore,be used to balance out areas where there may be too much Yang.A heavier, more rounded armchair, upholstered in red, is very Yang and would be better suited to the southern corner of the room,or areas which require Yang energy ,such as darker corners or corners that represent the southwest or northeast.
If you are having furniture made your own specification-a dining room table, for example,or chests, cupboards, and sideboards-it pays to follow Feng Shui dimensions. The favorable dimensions are reproduced opposite for easy reference. As well as using them to assess desk, dining table, and other furniture dimensions, they can also be applied to the size of doors ,windows and even business cards. These auspicious dimensions are universally followed by the carpenters of Hong Kong and Taiwan, though it is not really clear how they came about. However, the Feng Shui ruler is freely used by Feng Shui practitioners to ensure Feng Shui luck.

The arrangement of furniture in living areas affects the social life of the household, especially relationships with friends and relatives. The placement of sofas, chairs, and coffee tables can either enhance relationships or they can create conflicts.Good arrangements always ensure that none of the chairs or sofas have their backs to the door or entrance to the living room.Nor should the chairs be too close to the coffee table  and other chairs,in general, arrangement should attempt to simulate the eight-sided Pa Kua.The L-shaped arrangement is actively discouraged ,unless the furniture is placed against a corner of the room. This is because this shape resembles a poison arrow, which is not conducive to the smooth flow of ch'i.
You should also avoid having doors opening onto furniture .This is because the flow of ch'i into the room will be blocked. It is better to have the door opening onto an empty space.

Feng Shui furniture ideas should include good quality, smooth edges and proper placement for good energy flow.
